Our Featured Cats

NINE LIVES CLUB: Many of the kitties that come to Planned Pethood have medical issues that need treatment to get them healthy. The kitties in our 'Nine Lives Club' have medical issues, or have had medical treatment, to give them the very best quality of life.

Read their stories and open your hearts to these very special kitties.

ella blueELLA BLUE

Ella Blue is a 1 year old gray tabby cat. Humanely trapped as a kitten, Ella had to have an eye removed due to a severe infection, so she could not be returned as planned. This is a unique cat she is feral, polydactyl and has only 1 eye. Her front paws look like mittens and you can hear her clumping along the carpet. She is a great companion cat and more submissive with the other kitties. Ella would not be competing for your attention or lap with any current cats, but would be good company for them. She is a huge couch potato and loves to just watch the kittens play or sleep on her perch near a window. Ella loves Temptation cat treats and comes right up for them. No substitutions, she only likes Temptation. She will nibble on wet food, but is submissive with the food bowls and the last to eat, although she is not lacking in the weight department. As her pictures show, Ella Blue loves to sit inside things and watch the world. If you would like to offer a feral, one eyed polydactyl cat a safe home, her adoption fee is sponsored. Please contact her foster at 419-450-8581 or nfisher@rjfenterprises.com to adopt her.

smokeySMOKEY

Smokey was adopted from Planned Pethood as a kitten, and after nine years of happily living with his family, suddenly found himself homeless, sitting in a cage at PetSmart's adoption center. Separated from his loved ones, surrounded by other strange cats, Smokey was confined, confused and frightened. So he is among our featured cats, not because he has, or has had, any medical problems. But because we know it will take someone very special who will want to adopt a nine year old cat, and commit that they will love and care for him for what we hope will be ten or more years. Many shelters would not even accept cats of this age, because of the many kittens and young cats that are more adoptable. But Planned Pethood rescued him as a kitten, and has rescued him again in hopes of finding that special person who will see the many advantages of adopting a 'middle-aged' cat. They are mellower, less demanding and less destructive than energetic kittens. Their personalities are fully developed, and Smokey is a very loving cat. Smokey is reserved, but once he trusts you he will nudge you for affection and smother you with kisses. He is very playful and likes other cats. He plays hide and seek with foster mom's 3 year old cat, and its hard to tell that there is any age difference between them. Smokey has all of the characteristics of a Russian Blue and is front declawed. Please consider adopting Smokey. Since cats can live well into their late teens and early twenties with proper care, he can give you many, many more years of faithful companionship and unconditional love. Please contact his foster mom at upnorthmi@bex.net or (734) 856-6055 to meet him. Smokey's adoption fee is only $25!!

ROBERT NUBBINS

robert nubbins 1Last week three ladies found Robert Nubbins on the east side of Toledo with this horrible wound. It is unclear whether or not he ever had a tail or if it sustained an injury and then abcessed. The wound was extensive and required reconstructive surgery to repair. One week later he is thriving and his wounds are healing very nicely.

robert nubbins 4Robert Nubbins is very sweet and a real trooper for everything he has had to endure.

If left unrepaired this cat would not have lasted very much longer on the streets. 04/20/10

MATTIE

mattiePlanned Pethood was contacted by a Good Samaritan that feeds the strays in her neighborhood. A cat had been left behind by her owners and was injured and starving. Mattie, affectionately named by the veterinarian due to her severely matted fur, had to be shaved to make her more comfortable and clean. She had difficulty eating and trying to survive during this cold winter with little shelter and competing with younger and healthier cats for the food. Mattie also has a severe mouth infection that makes eating painful and slow. We are so glad we could help this lovely girl. Everyone at the vet clinic raved about her sweet personality and said that going by her cage and seeing that cute face with the tongue sticking out brought a smile to their faces.

Mattie is getting antibiotics and much needed nutrition before being reevaluated and receiving a dental. This darling lady's attitude is truly admirable. She holds no grudges and just purrs and kneads away, just beside herself with joy for some attention, soft bedding and food. 03/08/10

mattieMattie is feeling so much better that she can occasionally be spotted acting like a kitten, playing with the toys and making the cat playing moves. Her hair is a medium length shiny black with smoke undertones. She is grooming herself, grazing on dried food all day with a small plate of wet food at dinner. Mattie enjoys short periods of brushing and is a nice, undemanding companion. The only reminder of her previous struggle to survive is she is hand shy when you reach to pet her, afraid she will be hit. Hopefully in a new, loving home even that memory will fade. 06/23/10
